Our Story
It all started with a simple realization and an idea…. I love Beef Jerky but why do most flavors suck!!!Growing up as a kid, my Grandad Papa Gerald would make his own Special Beef Jerky recipe but only for special occasions, you would have to wait for holidays, road trips, and family gatherings, but no matter the occasion what I always remembered was that everyone would gather around for that amazing Special Beef Jerky.
As I got older having to study and work all the time, there were less and less holiday gatherings, road trips, and special occasions for me. Until one year when I couldn’t travel back home for the holidays because of school and work, I found myself buying beef jerky the afternoon of Thanksgiving. I didn’t touch it till later that evening but when I took a bite and immediately threw it out. For the next few months, I tried all kinds of jerky brands and flavors, I couldn’t get my fix or anything that came close to Papa Gerald’s Special Beef Jerky recipe. It was amazing to me that so many brands and flavors, but none could compare to my Grandads recipe. Man, did I need my Grandad’s recipe! That next year I flew back out West to visit my family for the winter Holidays and the first thing I did was go see Papa Gerald and I asked the question “Papa, can you please give me your beef jerky recipe? I’m dying to know how you do it?”, he looked at me with a long gaze and said, “I can’t give you my recipe it’s a secret… you have to discover your own flavors.” I must tell you he lit a fire under me to create something better than everyone has ever tasted. This is where the idea and movement SMXCK JERKY was born.
It started with small test batch after small test batch, constantly looking for the right combination of flavor and spice, so many cuts of meat, and time. Countless days of dehydrating until I found my flavor that SMXCK’d!
What is SMXCK… pronounced “Smack” is an idea, a feeling, and a movement of how we should look at food and how food should make us feel. SMXCK is that mouth-watering feeling that happens when you’re starving, and dinner is so close you can almost taste it through the air. SMXCK is that feeling you get when something with so much flavor hits your tongue and shocks you. My #1 goal is to be a flavor-based company, I want people to say, “This food SMXCK’s!”, when they’re enjoying any of my unique flavored recipes.
